The Going Green Wisconsin EXPO provided attendees the opportunity to learn through panel discussions, guest lectures, video, film and special presentations.

Each presenter shared their knowledge in ways that were both comprehensible and helpful to the going green initiative.

Meet Bill Bass, Fair Indigo CEO

Bill Bass is CEO of Fair Indigo, a multichannel retailer of its own brand of fair trade apparel, and chairman of its corporate parent Black Wolf Group. Prior to co-founding Fair Indigo in 2005, Bill ran both Sears’ direct-to-customer business and Lands’ End’s ecommerce business. Before the sale of Lands’ End to Sears in 2002, he was also responsible for Lands’ End’s international business unit with catalog operations in Japan, Germany and the United Kingdom.

Prior to joining Lands' End in 1999, Bill served as a group director at Forrester Research. Before that, he co-founded and co-managed the Boston.com Web site, the online subsidiary of the Boston Globe newspaper. Bill’s business career also includes work as a strategic initiatives manager with Knight Ridder. An Army veteran, Bill received his B.A. from Princeton University and an M.B.A. and M.A. from Stanford University.


What are your Green Ideas?

Over the weekend, attendees shared their green tips in the Green Gathering area. Here are some of their suggestions for easy ways to act green every day...

  • Take only the pamphlets you NEED!
  • We replace our grass lawn with groundcover, shrubs and native plants - Carol
  • I hang my clothes up to dry - Margaret
  • Buy clothes at St. Vincent's!
  • Unplug your electronics when not in use
  • Skateboard to work!! :) Lisa
  • Breastfeed your babies!
  • Bike or walk I leave the car at home.
  • Scooter to work!
  • We replaced our lawn with fruit and nut trees...yum!
  • Put an edible garden (veggies, herbs, etc.) In your yard or window!
  • My husband and I load the bicycle on the back of the car. I bike around Madison all day and he uses his car for work. I either catch a ride home with him with the bike or bike home.
  • We don't buy junk we really don't need.
  • Live near your work place.
  • Get rid of your huge SUV!
  • Buy a condo instead of a large home.
  • We use goats to help mow the lawn :)
  • Use cats to mow lawn :)
  • Share rides w/co-workers
  • Use renewable energy
  • Use fluorescent bulbs
  • Take your own bags to the supermarket
  • Work from home when you can, or go to work four 10-hour days instead of five days - save 20% commuter miles!
