Aldo Leopold Nature Center

The mission of the Aldo Leopold Nature Center is to provide innovative, hands-on programs for children and their families and teachers that “...teach the student to see the land, to understand what he sees, and enjoy what he understands.” in the spirit of famed Wisconsin ecologist Aldo Leopold.

Through year-round programs, ALNC fosters admiration and respect for nature, encourages sustainability and stewardship of the land, and provides opportunities for families to connect with nature.

Artterro

The owners of Artterro searched high and low for eco-friendly, open-ended art projects with beautiful materials but they were nowhere to be found. Most kits on the market offer lots of glitzy packaging but disappoint after opening the box. You’re left with a handful of cheap materials and a cookie-cutter project that ends up in the trash a week later.

Kids appreciate quality art materials! Beautiful supplies inspire them to create amazing things, just like they do for adults. Children easily immerse themselves in the process, often unattached to the final product, and their enthusiasm is contagious! Works of art composed with Artterro's high-quality materials become treasures artists young and old proudly display.

Artterro wants to make it easier for people to bring art into their lives. Artterro kits are for kids, families, seasoned artists and novices alike. They’ve done the sourcing and shopping, helping busy people bring a creative, meaningful activity home to their families. They have experience taking four and seven-year-olds along to art and craft stores, attempting to gather supplies for a family project, which is not an easy task!

So, out of love and inspiration, Artterro was born and being creative dreamers ourselves, have lots of plans in the works for the future. Bringing these projects into their own lives has deepened connections to families and friends and they are excited to provide this experience to your families as well.

Avant Gardening and Landscaping

As the name implies, Avant is at the forefront. They adapt, innovate, and develop new techniques in gardening, find new solutions to landscape problems, and maintain high standards of stewardship of our land. Nature is their inspiration.

The goal of Avant is to use all of the tools, colors, surfaces, textures and emotions in our palette to create artistic, well-layered landscapes that uplift the spirits of those who live with their designed spaces.

Volunteers from the Triple M Green Team will help serve as the helping hands in producing the 2008 GGW EXPO. Volunteers will assist in taking tickets, supervising recyling efforts, directing guests to specific activity areas, handing out gift bags, and monitoring the EXPO's ecological impact.

Habitat ReStore

Working in partnership with Habitat for Humanity of Dane County, the Habitat ReStore retail operation provides a valuable source of cash flow through the sale of donated building materials.

Habitat ReStore works by accepting donations of new and used building materials such as cabinets, lighting and plumbing fixtures, doors, lumber, flooring, and windows. Some materials will be used to build Habitat houses and the rest will be sold to the public at 50-75% off the retail price to provide the community with a source of low cost building materials. Habitat ReStore also prevents usable building materials from going to a landfill, keeping close to 1000 tons of building materials out of Dane County's landfills annually.

Since its founding in 1987, Habitat for Humanity of Dane County has built and sold homes to nearly 120 working, low income individuals and families.

Habitat ReStore supports the Going Green Wisconsin EXPO by promoting its 8th Annual Habitat for Humanity ReStore Earth Day Celebration on April 18, 2008. The event will be held at 208 Cottage Grove Rd. in Madison, WI from noon to 4 p.m. For more information, visit www.restoredane.org

    Working Bikes Cooperative

The Working Bikes Cooperative is a not-for-profit tax-exempt 501©3 organization which diverts bicycles from the waste stream in Chicago by repairing them for sale and charity.

Working Bikes is primarily volunteer-driven. Currently it receives no government or foundation money. All its operations are funded through the sale of bicycles at its storefront. Working Bikes uses that money to provide bicycles to charity organizations within Chicagoland and to ship bicycles to the Gulf Coast, Ghana, Tanzania, Angola, Cuba, Guatemala, and Peru.

In the countries to which Working Bikes ships, a bicycle can often mean the difference between work and unemployment. The bicycle is the primary means of vehicular transportation for the majority of the population and is used both for personal transportation and for carrying cargo.

Each year Working Bikes gives away over 5,000 bicycles locally and internationally. It distributes about 500 bicycles and wheelchairs in the Chicago area alone: to City programs, refugees and day camps.
