Why This Dish
Suwanasak is arguably one of Madison's best places for Thai food, but you'd never know it upon first glance. With its strip mall location on Gammon Road just south of the Beltline and its small and underwhelming interior, this place is easy to miss. But the food is authentic and tasty and worth seeking out if you fancy good pad Thai, curry dishes and larb—a minced meat salad commonly served in Laos and Thailand. The chicken larb dish at Suwanasak is light and flavorful, chock-full of fresh herbs and well-seasoned chicken. Beef and fish larb are also menu options. The portion is large enough to eat as an entrée and still have leftovers, but it makes a great appetizer to share. It's a refreshing departure from the hearty, filling noodle and rice dishes also common among Southeast Asian cuisine.
Calling ahead for takeout is your best option to enjoy Suwanasak's Thai delights. Delivery (through GrubHub) can be slow and dine-in service doesn't offer much in terms of ambience.
